Charles longs to tell Raven the truth. He wants to tell her that the reason he sleeps around with random women is because he can never have a serious relationship, that a one-night-stand here and a one-night-stand there is the best that he can hope for under the circumstances - that she is the main reason why he refuses to even try for anything more meaningful because nothing, no one, is worth the risk of losing what they have built up together over the years. But there's a reason why the majority of the women he does bring home are blondes, and why they are smart and funny and feisty, but still people that could quite easily be fallen in love with given the chance.

Instead, Charles stares, expression thoughtful with creases creeping into his forehead from the effort, but remains mute. He gives a nod of his head and, despite the tension left between them, hooks his arm back around hers before he leads them on towards their current home.

But he doesn't stop thinking, wishing he could look into her thoughts and find out what it is that she wants him to say to put things right, and in the end he settles for what he supposes is only fair considering. "If I were to alter my ways, to remain completely unattached in any capacity, would that satisfy you? If you and I both made a compromise to leave this topic of discussion where it is for the time being and neither seek out what it is we might crave?" It isn't a solution and he knows it, but right now it's the best that he believes he can offer.
