He hates it when Raven becomes hostile with him, but the truth is that he knows, deep down, that he deserves nothing less. In fact, he thinks he deserves quite a lot more than she ever dishes out. Yes, he may have taken her in when she had no one or no where else, but after years of keeping her hidden, over-protecting her beyond what is health, and having her witness the horrors that his family brought prior to their passing - Charles definitely thinks he's getting off lightly.
But there is something that catches his attention and lingers at the front of his mind. As much as you love me, you're not in love with me. "What on earth would make you say such a terrible thing? Are you really in such a hurry to see the back of me? Without me, Raven, you would be quite alone in the world, and whether or not this is something you wish for, I can assure you that I don't intend to turn my back on you."
