Charles frowns with confusion, certain that he's doing or saying something wrong time and time again, but still not sure what that something is exactly. Or if he does, deep down, he can't reach for it long enough to have the realisation dawn on him. But he hates to see Raven upset, aches when she hurts, and the more he tries to help these days the worse it seems to make things.
The comment about Tom is a slap to the face, but she is old enough and wise enough to make her own choices in life, and he's going to have to learn to accept that he can't make them all for her forever eventually. But that doesn't mean he has to approve.
"Raven, please, let's not be hasty. You're upset and running off to seek comfort is no way to deal with that. And I honestly think that you could do so much better than Tom." He tries again to put an arm around her, to steer her closer to home so that they can get out of the cold and wet and sort this out properly under better circumstances. "Please, love, this is neither the time nor the place for this. And look at you, you must be freezing to death."
